Whilst employed by Brunei Shell Petroleum I had the pleasure of experiencing a transfer from a barge to an offshore platform in the North Sea southern sector, using an Ampelmann motion compensated gangway.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Like many others who have experienced the Ampelmann I believe that this is the way forward personnel transfer offshore.  

 

Specific advantages are

 

-   Provides a safe and simple transfer from vessel to platform.

 

-   Increases operational weather limits to up to 3.5m seas, thereby increasing barge productivity.

 

-   No modification required to existing platforms.

 

-   ability to land  gangway on any point of the platform.  (exceptionally useful in an emergency)

 

-   Proven reliability.  

 

-   Easily added or removed package for barges, work boats etc.
